CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Kia Damon-Olson and the Lafayette women's basketball team opened their season at Boston College on Monday night, resulting in a 85-55 loss to the ACC foe.
Lafayette got off to a hot start in the first quarter, holding a lead for over six minutes through the first quarter. Sophomore guard
Teresa Kiewiet scored the Leopards' first bucket of the season (6:53) off a second chance pull-up jumper. Just seconds later junior guard
Kay Donahue knocked down a triple to give the Maroon and White the lead (5-2). With 1:09 remaining in the first frame, Donahue scored two points on a driving layup to give Lafayette its largest lead of the game, 14-8. The Leopards led 14-9 after 10 minutes.
The Eagles found their footing in the second quarter, outscoring Lafayette 25-15. Andrea Daley and Kaylah Ivey both dropped in six points, leading Boston College offensively. Senior guard
Abby Antognoli got hot in the second period, recording 11 of Lafayette's 15 points, nine of which were scored from downtown. The Eagles' 56.3 percent shooting percentage from the field, granted the hosts a 34-29 lead at the intermission.
Boston continued to fire on all cylinders after halftime, putting up 30 points and shooting 55 percent from the floor. Forward Kennedi Jackson led all scorers in the quarter, dropping in eight points on 4-of-5 shooting. Freshman guard
Talia Zurinskas recorded her first collegiate bucket with 5:04 left in the quarter on a driving layup. With 10 minutes to go, Lafayette trailed, 64-42.

Sauda Ntaconayigize led the Maroon and White on offense in the final period, scoring five points on 2-of-3 shooting, Freshman forward
Jordyn Mays scored her first bucket as a Leopard with a layup with 40 seconds to go.
Turnovers were the key to Monday evening's contest. Boston College committed 10 fewer turnovers (21-11) than Lafayette, tallying 13 steals. The Eagles also outrebounded the Leopards' 44-34.
Lafayette returns to the court for its home opener at 2 p.m. on Saturday versus St. Francis.
