PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette men's basketball team continued the 2024-25 season with an 81-60 loss at La Salle on Saturday at Jon E. Glaser Arena.
Senior Devin Hines led the way in scoring for the Leopards, dropping in 17 points, while freshmen Alex Chaikin and Caleb Williams added eight points each. Lafayette shot 36 percent from the field and knocked down nine three-pointers.
The Explorers got off to a hot start, holding the Maroon and White scoreless through the first three minutes of the contest while taking an 8-0 advantage. La Salle built upon its lead with 11 points from Andres Marrero to make it 23-12 with 11:16 to play in the first half.Â
With 7:36 left in the first half, La Salle went on a 5-0 run, increasing its lead with help from Demetrius Lilly, whose and-one pushed the lead to 19. Hines and fellow classmate Luka Savicevic hit a pair of triples to inch the Leopards closer. The two teams would trade shots all the way until the end of the first half, as La Salle led 45-28.
The second half was all La Salle. The Explorers led by as many as 32 points before the eventual 19-point final margin. Chaikin and Williams saw action late in the contest, with the freshmen collecting eight and five points, respectively, in the final five  minutes.
The Explorers shot 44 percent from the field, in addition to knocking down 20-of-26 opportunities from the charity stripe. La Salle's Marrero finished the game with 18 points, three boards, two assists and two steals. Jahlil White, Daeshon Shepherd, and Corey McKeithan all finished with double-digit points. La Salle held a 52-27 advantage on the glass, including 15-5 on the offensive end.Â
The Leopards return home to Easton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to face off against Penn.
