Baseball Closes out Weekend Series at ETSU

Helmick strikes out three in collegiate debut

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Lafayette baseball concluded its weekend series with East Tennessee State on Sunday, falling 13-1 at Thomas Stadium.
 
ETSU scored first, tallying seven runs in the first inning on three RBI-singles, a two-run single and a two-run double. The Bucs added another run in the second, to make the score 8-0.
 
Lafayette got on the board in the third. Junior Easton Brenner and junior Ben Petrone both drew walks to the start the frame. Junior Michael Zarrillo reached on a fielder's choice, which moved Brenner to third. Junior Ethan Young hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Brenner and bringing the tally to 8-1.
 
In the middle innings, freshman Tristan Helmick made his collegiate debut for the Leopards, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up one hit, one run and striking out three.
 
In the sixth and seventh, ETSU extended its lead, scoring five more runs, making the final score 13-1.
 
Carter Fink collected the win for the Bucs, while sophomore Trace Florio took the loss for the Leopards.

The Leopards are next in action when the travel to the West Coast to face Oregon on Friday, at 7 p.m. (EST).
