Antognoli and Drummond combine for 41 points on NGWSD

EASTON, Pa. – Senior forward Kayla Drummond (19 points) and junior guard Abby Antognoli (22 points) combined for 41 points in the team's 68-54 win over Army on Saturday.

Saturday's contest served as National Girls and Women in Sports Day on campus. Prior to tip-off, an all-sports girls clinic was held in Kirby Sports Center with several Lafayette teams assisting with the event. During halftime, a youth basketball team from Forks Township, Pa. held a scrimmage, and after the game the Lafayette women's basketball team held an autograph session on the court.

Drummond finished the contest with a career-high 19 points, while also posting her second double-double of the season, collecting 10 rebounds and three blocks. The Ontario, Canada native shot 5-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. In her last four games, the Government and Law major is averaging 12.8 ppg and 8.0 rpg.

Antognoli finished in double figures for the 15th time this season, while adding three assists, four rebounds and a steal against the Black Knights.

Taylor Wilson led Army's offense, finishing with 15 points, shooting 5-for-9 from beyond the arc.

The first few minutes of Saturday's matchup were back-and-forth. Army took a four-point lead (12-8) with 4:52 to go in the first quarter after Trinity Hardy finished her layup in the paint. Antognoli's jumper with three seconds left in the period cut Army's lead to three points (19-16).

Wilson opened the second quarter with a triple, but Lafayette then got hot. The Leopards went on an 8-0 run thanks to buckets from Halee Smith, (four points) Makayla Andrews, (11 points) and Drummond. Wilson responded with another three-pointer, but the Maroon and White produced another small spurt, giving them a five-point lead (30-25) with 3:37 left in the first half. At the intermission, Lafayette led 30-28.

Fiona Hastick tied the game at 34 apiece for Army with a triple with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. The Black Knights outscored Lafayette 13-11 in the period, tying the game (41-41) heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The Leopards were firing on all cylinders in the final quarter of play, outscoring their opponent 27-13. Drummond had a big 10 minutes, scoring 13 points while grabbing five boards and Antognoli dropped in eight points. Lafayette shot 64.3 percent in the final period which propelled them to their second straight Patriot League victory.

The Leopards return to Kirby Sports Center at 2 p.m. next Saturday for a matchup with archrival Lehigh.
