EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette improved to 9-2 in Patriot League play with a 75-59 mid-week victory against Holy Cross in Kirby Sports Center.
Lafayette's top performance came from
Eric Sondberg, who totaled 16 points, two rebounds, a block and a steal.
Kyle Jenkins and
Justin Vander Baan followed with 11 points apiece as the Maroon and White shot 9-of-19 from long range and 50 percent from the floor.
Jenkins and Sondberg opened scoring for the Leopards in the first half, draining multiple 3-pointers by the 14-minute mark for a 10-7 advantage. Holy Cross battled back to take the edge of a 14-11 stretch to 6:26 to tie the game, 21-21.
Lafayette pushed ahead for good with an 11-1 run just three minutes later, fueled again by back-to-back shots beyond the arc from Jenkins (2) and Sondberg to lead by 10 points, 32-22. Lafayette led 34-26 advantage going into the locker room at halftime.
The first 10 minutes of the second half saw even offensive play as the Leopards shot 7-of-10 from the floor and added a pair of 3-pointers. Vander Baan had eight points in the 17-16 Lafayette spell to 11:31.
Junior
Chris Rubayo netted six points by 8:32 as the hosts continued to push ahead, 57-42.
Lafayette's largest lead, 20 points, came between 4:35 and 2:40, when the team had a 68-48 upper-hand by holding Holy Cross to just one bucket and six free throws, all by Bo Montgomery.

Mike Bednostin capped the evening with a deep 3-pointer and a pair of layups, respectively, in the final minutes before Lafayette earned a 75-59 victory on its home court.
Holy Cross shot 36.7 percent from the field. Montgomery and Kahlil Singleton each had 10 points and two assists on the evening for the opponent.
Lafayette dished a total of 18 assists while keeping to a season-low five turnovers.
The Leopards travel to Lehigh for the first Rivalry matchup of the season on Saturday at 7 p.m.
