EASTON, Pa.- A last-second save by senior goalkeeper
Lexie Coldiron helped Lafayette defeat Eastern Michigan, 7-6, on Saturday morning in Fisher Stadium.
Haleigh Albrect (2) and
Sara Rogers (1) pushed the Leopards out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter.
Lafayette outscored the Eagles 2-1 by the halftime break for a 5-2 advantage going into the locker rooms.
Clare Culligan was credited with both goals on man-up situations.
Eastern Michigan's Mackenzie Blackwell and Avery Schwab added to the team's tally, closing the gap to one goal, trailing 5-4.
Sophia Spallone and Albrecht gave Lafayette another lead, 7-5, with six minutes to play in the fourth period.
The Eagles once again climbed back to a one-point deficit and had an offensive opportunity with 10 seconds on the clock. Coldiron stood tall in the Leopard net, making a game-saving play to improve the program to a 3-3 overall record.
Eastern Michigan held the advantage in draw controls (11-6), ground balls (27-24), shots (22-18) and clears (16-18 to 18-25).
Coldiron made eight saves in the victory. Her Eagle counterpart, Maddie Porter, made seven.
Next up, the Leopards host Villanova on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
