EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team swept both halves of a Saturday doubleheader against Holy Cross at Kamine Stadium, winning 3-0 and 11-6.
Lafayette wasted no time in taking the lead in game one. In the first, sophomore
Ethan Swidler drew a walk, stole second and then came around and scored on a dropped third-strike wild pitch to senior
Blaze Fadio, to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Lafayette extended its lead. Junior
Michael Zarrillo started the frame with a walk and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Easton Brenner. Freshman
Teddy Cashman drove in Zarrillo on an RBI-single to right field, to make the score 2-0.
Lafayette once again added to its tally in the fifth, when senior
Justin Grech singled to center field and then later in the inning came in to score on an RBI-single to center field by Swidler, increasing the Leopards' advantage to 3-0, which held to be the final score.

Joe Skapinetz pitched masterfully, giving up no runs and only three hits, while striking out five over 6.1 innings of play. Senior
Joey Pence earned his first save of the year, recording the final two outs of the contest, both by strikeouts. Alex Bryant took the loss for Holy Cross.
Game two began with the Crusaders jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run home run.
Lafayette responded in the bottom of the third. With runners on second and third, Zarrillo lined an RBI-single to left field and was followed by Brenner, who pushed another runner across the plate on a bunt-single, to tie the game 2-2. Later in the inning, junior
Ben Petrone blasted a three-run home run to right field, to give the Leopards a 5-2 lead. The home run was Petrone's seventh of the year.
The Crusaders scored in both the fifth and the sixth innings, driving in a single run in the fifth on an RBI-groundout, and two runs in the sixth on an RBI-groundout and a wild pitch, to tie the game 5-5.
The Leopards took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning, as Swidler ripped a two-run home run to right field. The home run was Swidler's eighth of the year. Later in the inning, Zarrillo lined a solo blast to right field, making the tally 8-5.
Lafayette added insurance runs in the eighth, on an RBI-double down the right field line by Zarrillo that scored Fadio. Petrone smacked his second home run of the game to right field, a two-run shot that gave the Leopards an 11-5 lead.
In the ninth, Holy Cross scored a run on a solo home run, but could not push any more runs across the plate, bringing the final score to 11-6.
Senior
Adam Bogosian picked up his second win for the Leopards, giving up one run and surrendering five hits, while striking out three over 3.1 innings of work. Danny Macchiarola took the loss for the Crusaders.
The Leopards will close out their three-game series with Holy Cross on Senior Day with a single game on Sunday starting at noon.
