EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette closed out the Boston U. series with a 10-1 finale on Sunday afternoon at Metzgar Fields.
Prior the game, Lafayette honored the softball Class of 2024:
Kristen Brown,
Jacqueline Cal,
Bailey Langford,
Bella Lowdermilk,
Paige Sandidge and
Kailee Sawai. Leopard head coach
Karavin Dew was able to work all six seniors into the conference matchup.
The game was scoreless through three innings. Cal, who started in the circle for the Leopards, was cruising early, allowing just one baserunner in the opening three frames.
The Terriers broke through for five runs in the fourth inning. A perfectly placed squeeze bunt from Brooke Deppiesse plated the first run. The Terriers added another on an RBI-single from Lauren Nett before Kylie Doherty blasted a three-run home run the opposite way for the 5-0 advantage.
The visitors pushed across five more in the sixth inning. Kayla Roncin was responsible for the big hit in the inning, lifting a bases-clearing double to left centerfield to plate three.
The Leopards finally got to BU starter Kasey Ricard in the bottom of the sixth. Ricard had retired 14 in a row before
Megan Coyle went yard, crushing her offering over the wall in left field to push the final to 10-1.
Ricard struck out 11, allowing one run on three hits over six innings. Cal and reliever
Kailee Sawai both allowed five runs on five hits, with Cal pitching four innings and Sawai two.
Lafayette wraps up the 2024 regular season on Wednesday, hosting Marist in a doubleheader slated to begin at 2 p.m.
