WORCESTER, Mass. – Lafayette began a three-game weekend series against Holy Cross with 1-0 and 8-1 losses in a Saturday doubleheader.
Sophia Roncone threw all seven innings in the first game, recording five strikeouts through 19 batters.
Jacqueline Cal pitched six innings for the Leopards, retiring two batters while only allowing three hits.
Holy Cross took the lead in the bottom of the first inning and kept Lafayette off the board for the rest of the game with clutch pitching and defense. After the Leopards took the field due to a one, two, three inning, the Crusaders got to work. Ali Sniegocki led off with a double to center field and advanced to third by tagging up shorty after shortstop Anna Brait flew out to right field. Claire McCann gave Holy Cross an early 1-0 lead with a single to center, allowing Sniegocki to score.
Holy Cross captured the 1-0 final.Â
In game two, Megan Yurchick got the nod in the circle for Holy Cross and she retired Lafayette in order in the top of the first.  Sniegocki wasted no time at the plate for Holy Cross, homering to center field on the first pitch she saw. McCann, Jessica Mott and Yurchick all followed with RBI's, giving Holy Cross a 4-0 lead heading into the top of the second.

Mary Grace O'Neill started the inning with a base knock to right. She stole second and
Megan Coyle flew out to left before
Olivia Catalina drove in O'Neill with a single to right field. Lafayette trailed 4-1 as Yurchick navigated her way through the next two batters to get out of the inning in the eventual 8-1 final.Â
Lafayette returns to Freshman Field tomorrow for the final game of the season. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. against the Crusaders.
