EASTON, Pa.– The Lafayette field hockey team defeated Vermont 2-1 on Friday evening during the season opener on Rappolt Field.
The Leopards scored twice in the second period to secure the contest, starting with
Lea Good's goal at 18:53, assisted by
Laine Delmotte, in front of the cage. Senior co-captain
Lineke Spaans added another at the 25-minute mark.
Vermont's Marie Dijkstra, assisted by Meg Weyer, converted late in the third quarter. The Catamounts couldn't get past the deficit in the final minutes for a 2-1 outcome.
The Maroon and White held the advantage in total shots (11-6) and penalty corners (6-3).
Lafayette's junior goalkeeper
Raffi Fragomeni made three saves on six shots faced. Her Catamount counterpart, Ila Gunner, made four on 11.
The Leopards host Delaware on Sunday at 1 p.m.
