HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Lafayette volleyball team fell to tournament host FDU in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) Friday afternoon inside Bogota Savings Bank Center.

Senior outside hitter Abby Nieporte finished the first set with four kills, while junior outside hitter Carol Ulichney added three of her own. Lafayette found a 12-8 lead, showing some nice offensive momentum. FDU managed to tie the game at 15 apiece with a six-point run led by Avery Bain. Nieporte and Ulichney showed their experience as the set grew on, keeping Lafayette in the driver seat with a three-point lead (20-17). The Knights then incredibly finished the set with an eight-point run, snatching the first set, 25-20.  

Bain (3), Eleonora Tosi (3) and Nott (7) combined for 13 of the Knight's points in the second set. The Leopards trailed 10-8 before a four-point spurt by FDU featuring kills by Tosi and Nott extended its lead to six points. A service ace by junior libero Emily Gouldrup and some errors by FDU brought Lafayette within three-points of tying the game, but the Knights held on in the second period, 25-17.

Hannah Schmidt recorded three-straight service aces to start the final set. Some errors by Lafayette and another Schmidt ace gave FDU an early 9-1 lead. The Maroon and White showed great resilience and responded with a seven-point spurt of its own, led by Nieporte and Ulichney. FDU regained its momentum shortly after went on to complete the sweep, advancing to 3-4 on the year.

Both teams face one another at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Hackensack.
