HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Lafayette volleyball team fell to tournament host FDU in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) Friday afternoon inside Bogota Savings Bank Center.

Abby Nieporte finished the first set with four kills, while junior outside hitter
Carol Ulichney added three of her own. Lafayette found a 12-8 lead, showing some nice offensive momentum. FDU managed to tie the game at 15 apiece with a six-point run led by Avery Bain. Nieporte and Ulichney showed their experience as the set grew on, keeping Lafayette in the driver seat with a three-point lead (20-17). The Knights then incredibly finished the set with an eight-point run, snatching the first set, 25-20. Â
Bain (3), Eleonora Tosi (3) and Nott (7) combined for 13 of the Knight's points in the second set. The Leopards trailed 10-8 before a four-point spurt by FDU featuring kills by Tosi and Nott extended its lead to six points. A service ace by junior libero
Emily Gouldrup and some errors by FDU brought Lafayette within three-points of tying the game, but the Knights held on in the second period, 25-17.
Hannah Schmidt recorded three-straight service aces to start the final set. Some errors by Lafayette and another Schmidt ace gave FDU an early 9-1 lead. The Maroon and White showed great resilience and responded with a seven-point spurt of its own, led by Nieporte and Ulichney. FDU regained its momentum shortly after went on to complete the sweep, advancing to 3-4 on the year.
Both teams face one another at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Hackensack.
