SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Lafayette took No. 14 Syracuse to the final minutes in a one-goal decision on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
The Orange got on the board first with a penalty stroke by Bo Madden at 8:31 in the first quarter, leading 1-0.
After a flurry of 16 penalty corner attempts over three periods of play,
Lineke Spaans found the equalizer at 56:28 in the final quarter.
Bo van Kempen scored just three minutes later to retake the lead for Syracuse and seal the 2-1 outcome.
The Maroon and White held the advantage in total shots (16-11) and penalty corners (16-5).
Lafayette's junior goalkeeper
Raffi Fragomeni made eight saves, including five in the first half, while her Orange counterparts, Louise Pert and Vera Hekkenberg made one and six, respectively.
Next up, the Leopards travel to Holy Cross and open Patriot League play at 4 p.m. on Friday.
