ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette men's golf team traveled to Maryland to participate in "The Goat", a two-day tournament hosted by Navy at the Naval Academy Golf Club. The Leopards participated in rounds one and two on Saturday, seeing mixed results on the par-71, 7,025 yard course.
Lafayette is currently 10th in the 15-team field, with 18 holes to play on Sunday. The Maroon and White finished 26-over-par, good for a team score of 594. In round one, Lafayette finished 25-over-par. The afternoon was much kinder to the Leopards, as they shot one-over-par for the second round.
UpperclassmenÂ
Quint Dingledine and
Harry Dessel helped Lafayette bounce back in the afternoon. Both are tied for 13th in a field of 82 golfers. Dessel carded a 78 in round one, but was able to recover and finish six-under-par in round two, good for a 65. Dingledine shot a 72-71 in rounds one and two, respectively.
Sophomore
Winston Kelenc-Blank sits at t-43 after the first 36 holes which saw him go nine-over-par, for a score of 151. Freshman
Reed Theiss, participating in his first tournament as a Leopard, finished 15-over-par on day one, after carding 83-74.Â
Senior
Michael Bell is tied for 82nd, shooting an 86 in the first round and a 77 in the second. Freshman
Travis Robertson is participating in the tournament as an individual, where he finished with a score of 158, or 16-over-par. He's currently tied for 77th place.
The University of the Pacific currently leads the pack after hitting a collective nine-under-par, good for a team score of 559.
Lafayette will tackle the Naval Academy Golf Course at 8a.m. on Sunday, for one more round of 18.
