Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lafayette volleyball team fell to Lehigh in three sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-20) Friday evening at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace.
Lehigh got off to a hot start after Natalie Luscomb (2) and Emily Stewart (3) recorded kills to give the hosts an 8-3 lead. A 6-1 Mountain Hawks' run later in the period handed Lehigh a 10-point lead (23-13) and Jaidyn Garcia later finished the set, 25-15. Stewart and Luscomb combined for 12 kills in the opening set.
The hosts picked up right where they left off, gaining a 6-3 lead through Alysia Fingall, Megan Schulte and Luscomb. Three consecutive service errors brought the Leopards within two points (7-5) of tying the contest. Sophomore outside hitter
Emma Patmon kept Lafayette within striking distance with a pair of kills, but Lehigh's small scoring runs allowed the hosts to begin to pull away. Lehigh's 16 kills and .750 hitting percentage proved to be the difference in the second set (25-13).
The Mountain Hawks held a narrow lead (5-4) to open the final set, but a 4-0 scoring spurt extended their lead to five points. Lafayette found a 5-2 run towards the end of the set, cutting its deficit to four points (23-19), but Stewart and Fingall nabbed kills to take the final set (25-20).
The hosts hit for .343 on the evening and recorded 17 more digs (48-31) than Lafayette.
Lafayette returns to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday as it travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell.
