Thedrian Hat Trick Heralds 6-2 Win over Holy Cross

Leopards score a season-high six times on Rappolt

EASTON, Pa. - Lena Thedrian netted a hat trick to aid Lafayette field hockey in a 6-2 victory over Holy Cross on Rappolt Field on Friday evening. The Leopards improve to 8-4 (3-1 PL) overall.

Holy Cross earned the initial tally at 23:44 in the second period with a goal by Kendall Blomquist.

Thedrian heroically fired off three answering scores within two minutes of each other in the third quarter, putting the Leopards ahead 3-1.

Her first goal came off an assist from Lea Good, pushing the ball strategically into the far corner of the net at 37:21. The following pair of tallies (38:40, 39:03) were mirror images of her signature drag flick with assists by stick-stop Stella Malinowski and inserter Katie Gibb on penalty corners.

The Crusaders were able to convert on a fast break at 42:28 to close the gap to one, 3-2.

The fourth period saw three more strikes from the Leopards for the 6-2 final.

Good freed herself from a defender in the circle and collected a short reverse chip at 54:26 for her third goal of the season.

Mia Freeman scored at 58:04, grabbing a rebound off of a shot by Maddie Evans.

With perhaps the most spectacular shot of the evening, senior midfielder Josephine van Wijk added her name to the scoresheet on a reverse upright drive that flew over the head of the Crusader goalkeeper and into the cage at 59:19.

The Maroon and White held the advantage in total shots (28-8) and penalty corners (10-3).

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni made one save on three shots, while her Crusader counterpart, Mia McCloskey, made 11 saves on 17 shots on goal.

The Leopards travel to Quinnipiac next on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
