Field Hockey Clinches Playoff Berth in 3-2 Win at Rappolt

Junior Katie Gibb scored the game winner with seconds to go

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team defeated Colgate 3-2 on Saturday at Rappolt Field to capture its fourth Patriot League win of the season.

After a scoreless opening period, the Leopards were first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead after 21 minutes. The hosts were passing the ball in front of Colgate's goal when it made its way to Linda Nova. The freshman squared the ball back across goal and junior Lea Good was there to tap home her fourth goal of the season.

Both sides battled in midfield for the remainder of the half, leaving spectators with a 1-0 Leopards' lead at the break.

The Raiders needed less than three minutes in the third stanza to find their equalizer. Ahria Dhillon setup Dani Palmer at the 32:27 mark. Not even three minutes later the visitors doubled their advantage through Morgan Willis, thanks to an assist by Lauren Widdowson.

The Maroon and White picked up their intensity as the period wore on and they tied proceedings at 2-2 with 44 seconds left in the third quarter. Josephine van Wijk was skating by a few opponents, before she made a key pass to Lena Thedrian. The Hamburg, Germany native was quick to slide the ball into a dangerous area and Laila Pasic reacted first to tap home the tying goal.

Lafayette threw numbers forward in search of the game-winning goal and it won a penalty corner with just over a minute to go. Gibb was set to take the corner and she quickly found freshman Rosalie van Gool with some space. The Biology major returned the ball back to Gibb who lifted the ball over the oncoming Claire van Kempen to take the lead.

At the final horn, Lafayette advanced to 9-5 (4-1 in PL), which clinched its ticket to the 2025 Patriot League Field Hockey Tournament.

The Leopards held the advantage in total shots (17-4) and both sides earned four penalty corners.

The Maroon and White are back in action at 4 p.m. on Friday as they travel to Boston U. to conclude conference play.
