Field Hockey Claims Tenth Victory of 2025

Gibb scores from the baseline in second consecutive contest

BOSTON, Mass. - The Lafayette field hockey team bested Boston U., 1-0, to close out the regular season's Patriot League slate on Friday evening. The squad improved to 10-5 (5-1 PL) overall and is awaiting other conference contest results to determine seeding for the upcoming postseason action.

Neither team found the net in the opening half with both programs taking two shots.

In the third period, Lafayette won a penalty corner opportunity just after the nine-minute mark. Gibb inserted the ball up top to freshman Rosalie van Gool, whose shot ricocheted off the Terrier goalkeeper. Gibb was able to collect and redirect it to put the Leopards on the board, 1-0, at 36:46.

Boston was able to fight off the next Maroon and White corner attempt with a save on the goal line at the three-minute mark.

The Terriers' three-game scoring drought was extended by Lafayette through to the fourth period. Despite Boston exchanging their keeper for an extra field player as the clock wound down past the one-minute warning, the Leopards held on for the win.

The hosts held the advantage in total shots (7-5), yet both teams received three penalty corners.

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni and her Terrier counterpart, Sophie Ortyl, made two saves apiece.

Next up, the Leopards host New Hampshire in a non-conference battle on Sunday at noon.
