Leopards Fall to Army on Senior Day

Lafayette honored seniors Ashley Martinho, April McDonald, Sofia Ruggiero, Mariela Ramos, Katrina Santelli and Maddie Miniutti

EASTON, Pa. – The Leopards were outlasted by Army, 2-0, on Saturday at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium. Prior to the match, Lafayette celebrated Senior Day, honoring the six members of the class of 2026: Ashley Martinho, April McDonald, Sofia Ruggiero, Mariela Ramos, Katrina Santelli and Maddie Miniutti.

One of Lafayette's best opportunities to score came in the 17th minute. Off of a corner kick, Ruggiero took a shot from 10 yards away from the goal, forcing Army goalkeeper, Karalyn Dail, to make a diving save.

The match was scoreless after 45 minutes play, as the Leopards recorded three shots, while the Black Knights had eight.

In the second half, Army stepped in front. Sabrina Rogers found the back of the net in the 51st minute, after a shot ricocheted to her, giving the Black Knights a 1-0 advantage.

Army doubled its lead in the 74th minute. After a failed clear attempt by Lafayette, Bella Cooke ripped a shot into the goal, extending the Black Knights' lead to 2-0.

The Leopards had another good scoring opportunity in the 76th minute, as junior Nadia Zaffanella blasted a shot to the top of the cage that forced Dail to make a leaping save.

Neither team was able to score in the ensuing 14 minutes of play, and the final score remained 2-0.

Lafayette was led by Zaffanella, Ruggiero and freshman Era Methoxha, who all had two shots.

Junior goalkeeper Catherine Apker had 10 saves for the Maroon and White, and played the full 90 minutes. Her Army counterpart, Dail, also played 90 minutes and had three saves.

The Leopards next travel to Navy for a contest on Friday at 7 p.m.
