Field Hockey Handed First Conference Loss by American

Thedrian scores her second goal of the season

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Lafayette was knocked off by American, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at the Jacobs Recreational Complex in a rematch of the 2024 Patriot League Championship game.

Senior goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni was forced to make a stop on an Eagle shot just 90 seconds into the contest, though both teams battled to a defensive-focused 0-0 score after the first period.

The Eagles broke the tie at 4:32 in the next quarter on a second-straight penalty corner. Agustina Roffo collected the tally using a back-post tip for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

American forced another penalty corner at the nine-minute mark of the third period. The initial set piece sweep got past Fragomeni and was narrowly halted on the end line by Lena Thedrian, but Kendall Varty was credited with the Eagles' second score.

Laila Pasic brought the ball into the circle to earn Lafayette's first corner of the afternoon at 5:21 (Q3). Katie Gibb inserted the ball to Josephine van Wijk but the shot did not yield a much-needed answer.
American's Jordan Reicher rifled home an insurance goal for the hosts, 3-0, at 13:27 in the fourth quarter.

Thedrian put the Leopards on the board at 10:12 using her signature drag flick, cutting the gap to 3-1.

Despite three back-to-back-to-back corners at the one-minute mark, Lafayette fell in the 3-1 final.

The Leopards held the advantage in total shots (10-6) and penalty corners (8-4).

Lafayette's Fragomeni made one save while her Eagle counterpart, Pauline Gineste, made three. Thedrian was credited with one defensive save in the second half.

Next Friday, the Leopards host Holy Cross at 5 p.m.
