Kia Damon-Olson's squad to an opening 5-0 lead. The Peacocks wasted no time responding, scoring eight-straight points and stalling the Leopards' offense. There was 3:14 to go in the period when Zurinskas drained a pair of foul shots and Chudy converted a layup to retake the lead for Lafayette (16-12). Nonetheless, Louella Allana and Laila Grant knocked down three-pointers, giving St. Peter's an 18-17 advantage to end the first quarter.
The Maroon and White exploded for 23 points in the second period, led by seven points from junior
Rosie Scognamiglio and Poser. Lafayette held a one-point lead with 4:44 to go before its offense got hot. It concluded the half with a 14-4 run, courtesy of baskets from Scognamiglio (7), Poser (5) and Zurinskas (2). At the half, the Leopards held a commanding 11-point lead (40-29).
Lafayette led by as many as 15 points in the third quarter, but were outscored 15-13 by the visitors. De'Naya Rippey led the charge for St. Peter's with seven points, while Layla Laws and Allana tacked on three points apiece. With 3:09 to go the Peacocks cut their deficit to eight points (50-42), but Adamski buried a huge triple at the 0:55 mark to give her squad an 11-point advantage with 10 minutes to play.
The hosts garnered their largest lead of the game in the final stanza (76-56), after Adamski netted her fifth triple of the outing. Lafayette's offense came back to life in the fourth quarter, putting up 23 points to St. Peter's 14. After time expired, the Leopards moved to 1-3 on the year with Thursday's triumph and the visitors fell to 0-3.
Foul shooting proved to be the difference in Thursday's matchup. Lafayette took eight more shots from the charity stripe (18-10) and converted them at an 83.3 percent clip (15-18). The visitors made just four of their 10 opportunities.
The Leopards are back in action at 2 p.m. on Sunday as they make their way to Loretto, Pa. for a meeting with St. Francis.
