EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette hosted American on Friday night at Kirby Sports Center. The Eagles walked away with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-20) win.
Auma Mbeche-Odhiambo and
Abby Nicholson notched seven kills apiece in the loss.
The two teams swapped scores early in the first set. After back-to-back Leopard points, Lafayette remained down by one (8-7). The visitors responded with a stretch of six-straight points. Prinzez Zeck recorded a trio of kills in the run, pushing the American advantage to 14-7. The Eagles put the set away shortly after, using a Salme Adeele Hollas kill for a 25-15 set one victory. In the frame, Mbeche-Odhiambo racked up three kills.
Jada Aksu and
Destiny McKenzie slapped down two kills each.
The visitors secured a 25-14 set win in the second set behind strong performances from Carly Sciborski and Sophie Dufour. Sciborski and Dufour each knocked down five and four kills, respectively. As a team, American's offense found its groove in the set, hitting .464 on its way to recording 14 kills. For the Maroon and White, Sophila Wilson added in five of her 11 assists in the match.
In the final frame, the Leopards made a late rally thanks to Wilson. The Eagles held onto a 23-13 lead prior to a kill from Nicholson. With Wilson serving, Lafayette began a six-point spurt (23-20). In the run, Wilson tallied three consecutive aces. In addition, Nicholson chipped in two more kills. American closed the set out shortly after for a 25-20 score and a 3-0 match victory.
Lafayette travels to Holy Cross on Saturday for a 6 p.m. matchup for its final game of the season.
