Feather Rescues a Point for Men’s Soccer at Lehigh

Brooklyn, N.Y. native registered first career goal in 86th minute

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior midfielder Griffin Feather scored the first goal of his collegiate career on Tuesday night to save a point on the road at Lehigh. With Tuesday's result, the Leopards secured the six seed in the Patriot League Tournament and are now set to travel to West Point, N.Y. on Saturday to face Army at 7 p.m. in the first round.

Lafayette was on the front foot to begin the match, dominating the possession battle. The hosts eventually settled in, which gave spectators a physical and enticing watch. One of the match's biggest moments of the first half came in the 10th minute.

The Maroon and White were in transition and sophomore Cade Maglione had the ball. After playing a give and go with junior Roy Biegon, Maglione continued to drive at Lehigh's penalty area. The Allentown, N.J. native slipped by a pair of defenders and was brought down when he attempted to shoot. The referee awarded a penalty and Biegon took on the responsibility. The Economics major struck his effort well, but it whistled past the left post and Lehigh breathed a sigh of relief.

Lehigh generated its first look on goal in the 18th minute. The hosts were working the ball down the left flank when it arrived at the feet of Thomas Robertson. The forward immediately cut inside on his right foot, but his quick strike was wide of senior goalkeeper Eric Axtman's goal.

The Mountain Hawks took the lead in the 43rd minute. Lehigh was knocking the ball around 25 yards from goal until Aiden Gonzalez gained control. The midfielder quickly cut inside the box and his curled strike nestled into the top corner.

The hosts carried their first half momentum into the second. Lehigh edged the physical battle in the first five minutes and had a handful of set-piece opportunities.

Lafayette had a solid look on goal in the 53rd minute. Feather had the ball on the right flank prior to dribbling into the middle of the pitch. His pass made its way to Maglione's feet who took on a long shot, but Anton Kinnunen was equal to the task.

Anthony Durling and Samir Dishnica nearly unlocked the Mountain Hawks' back line in the 74th minute. Maglione found Durling on the left flank before the Hamilton, N.J. native beat his man for pace. He then played a clever pass to Dishnica who fired a low-driven shot, but his effort fizzed just wide.

The Leopards found their equalizer in the 86th minute. Lehigh was attempting to clear its lines before Feather and Gonzalez fought for position on the edge of the box. The Economics major got the better of his defender and won a penalty when he was clumsily fouled. Feather immediately rose to his feet and grabbed the ball to signal he would take the kick. The junior made no mistake from the spot, burying his strike in the roof of Lehigh's goal, giving Kinnunen no chance.

Both sides threw the kitchen sink at one another in the final four minutes, but at the final whistle The Rivalry ended in a 1-1 draw.
