HAMILTON, N.Y. - Men's basketball shot 50 percent from the floor and led for 97 percent of the contest to overtake Colgate on the road, 76-61, on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Caleb Williams led the squad in a career outing, finishing with a career-high 20 points and nine rebounds. The Jacksonville, Fla. native recorded 60 percent from the floor and beyond the arc on 10 and five attempts, respectively.

Alex Chaikin (18) and sophomores
Mark Butler (13) and
Andrew Phillips (10) rounded out the quad in double figures. The Leopards totaled 17-of-23 from the free throw line and limited the opponent's opportunities to 5-of-7.
Lafayette came out with some fire, seeking to avenge the initial Jan. 18 series loss. Lafayette earned a 12-8 lead by the 11-minute mark thanks to a pair beyond the arc while holding the Raiders scoreless from long distance.
Colgate tried to chase, but a combined 11 points from
Justin Vander Baan and Chaikin kept the Leopards out front, 25-16 at 8:01. Even play proceeded to the three-minute mark as Lafayette kept the Raiders contained, 35-26.
To close out the first half leading 46-27, the Leopards exploded offensively for an 11-1 run and forced a Colgate miss beyond the arc in the final seconds. Williams scored seven points in the effort.
The Maroon and White fought for a 15-9 stretch to kick off the second period, extending the advantage to a game-high 25, 61-36 by 12:36.
The hosts posted an 14-6 spurt over six minutes to whittle the margin to 17, trailing 67-50. Colgate continued to chip away at the Leopard lead, using a trio of scorers to bring the gap to 71-58 with 1:22 to play.
The Raiders began to foul in an attempt to regain possession thereafter, but were stumped by Williams on the charity stripe. The freshman guard sank both attempts before it was
Mark Butler's turn to add one more and finish the job at 76-61.
Colgate shot 43 percent from the field and tallied eight 3-pointers. The Raiders out-rebounded Lafayette 34-29, including a 12-8 margin on the offensive glass.
Jeff Woodward led the hosts with 11 points, limited to under his 14.6 points per game average. He added five rebounds, three assists and a block to his total.
Next up, the Leopards host Loyola Maryland on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The evening matchup will serve as the Down Syndrome Awareness Game with Paul Barry's Down Syndrome Awareness Group visiting as the honorary Fans of the Game.
