Men’s Lacrosse Dominates Le Moyne on the Road

Freshmen Nicholas Blalock and Joshua Heaney each record hat tricks

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Lafayette men's lacrosse team traveled to the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday, defeating Northeast Conference foe Le Moyne, 15-4. Freshmen duo Nicholas Blalock and Joshua Heaney each notched hat tricks as the Leopards return to the win column.

Almost four minutes elapsed before the opening goal was scored, but freshman Benjamin DiBattista broke the deadlock for the Leopards at the 8:12 mark. Junior midfielder Aidan Kopen doubled Lafayette's lead not even a minute later. Nicholas Blalock handed Lafayette a 3-0 lead, but the Dolphins got on the board (3-1) with 4:44 to go in the period.

Lafayette took a 4-1 advantage on a man-up goal by Clifford Chapman, his fifth of the season. The Spring Lake, N.J. native fired home with 11:59 left on the clock and the next goal wasn't scored until Zack Crosby dispatched a goal with five seconds left in the half. At the intermission, the Maroon and White led 4-2.

The Leopards controlled the entire third stanza of the contest. Freshman Mason Hill got the scoring started early, only to be matched by the Dolphins' Emmet McDermott. With 9:28 remaining in the quarter, Heaney rifled home his second of the day and started a 7-0 scoring run for Lafayette. Jack Irish (1), Heaney (2), Andrew Matarese (1), Blalock (2) and Jack Massotto (1) all punished the cage in the quarter to hand the Leopards a commanding 12-3 lead after three periods.

Senior captain Cade Kilbride scored his second goal of the campaign in the final period, while Nick Muller and Heaney also tacked on scores. Wyatt Auyer scored a consolation goal for Le Moyne at the 5:53 mark, but at the final whistle Lafayette advanced to 3-1 on the season.

Junior goalkeeper Joe Doherty made nine saves throughout the game and senior captain Gabe Cummins made his first appearance of the season, making two saves in six minutes.

Lafayette was dominant from the x on Saturday, winning 17 of its 23 attempts. Senior faceoff specialist Evan Prince capitalized on 16 of his 18 opportunities.

The Maroon and White are back on the road next Saturday for a noon matchup against nationally-ranked Army.
