EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette secured its first two wins in the 2025 campaign in a Saturday doubleheader against St. Peter's. Game three in the Leopards' 10-game homestand saw the Maroon and White capture a 6-5 win in walk-off fashion courtesy of
Katie Harrington, while
Parker Rowden's first complete game of the year put an exclamation point on a game two 5-4 victory.
Saturday's victories came in part to two of the program's sophomores. Harrington's heroics in the first game were pivotal in securing the victory, as the Warrington, Va. native collected hits in three of her four at-bats, tallying two singles, a home run and three RBIs. Game two saw
Regan Dillon, occupying her usual first base defensively, make the most of her two at-bats in the contest. Dillon walked once and swatted her first home run of the year to give Lafayette the go-ahead lead in the fourth inning.Â
Saturday's opener started with a chill in the air, but the Leopards' bats heated up. The Maroon and White collected 11 hits, with Harrington and freshman
Emma Ahlborn pacing the team with three each.Â
St. Peter's struck early when Tai Turner turned a
Makayla Lecky pitch into an RBI-double. The Peacocks pushed their lead to five with one run in the third and three in the fourth.
In the home half of the fourth inning, Harrington jolted a ball to center for her first home run of the campaign, scoring Ahlborn after a lead-off single. The sixth inning started with another single from Ahlborn, who crossed the plate on a delayed steal attempt.
The Leopards sensed urgency in the bottom of the seventh. Down two runs, Lafayette relied on
Caroline Hall to begin the inning. Hall legged out an infield single and stole second, placing a runner in scoring position. A
Dani Rosner single sneaked just inside the first base line, putting runners on the corners with one out. Fielder's choices on back-to-back plays allowed Hall to score and advanced Rosner to third. With two outs, the Leopards performed another delayed steal, throwing off St. Peter's and bringing home Rosner to tie the game.
Despite the Peacocks' best effort in the eighth,
Marisa Powell kept St. Peter's in check, punching out Turner with two outs to give Lafayette a chance to win.
A sacrifice bunt from
Maggie Klug started the inning, which moved runner
Sabina Lehnert to third and allowed Harrington to come up to the plate. Harrington waited on a pitch from Ava Murphy and knocked it into left, scoring Lehnert and securing the victory.
The second contest of the afternoon similar to the first, with Turner bringing home a run in the first with a sacrifice fly. The Maroon and White responded almost immediately when Klug shot a ball into center, scoring
Mary Grace O'Neill. Consecutive singles from O'Neill and
Olivia Catalina in the second gave the Leopards a two-run lead.
The game was decided in the fourth inning, as the two teams traded punches. St. Peter's used small ball to knot up the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth. Peacocks' pinch hitter Angelina Wagner drove in the second run for the visitors with a single. Right after Wagner, Taylor Montgomery beat out the double play throw from
Jocelyn O'Keeffe, allowing Steph Bendzlowicz to tie the game.
Lafayette regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, with Dillon's home run the deciding factor.Â
Rowden helped secure the second victory of the afternoon after going all seven innings. Rowden allowed four earned runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Morgan Lipansky was given the loss after allowing five earned runs on seven hits.
The Leopards re-take the field when they host a three-game set against Patriot League foe Holy Cross on March 22-23.
