Leopard Softball Rallies to Sweep Holy Cross Series

Harrington’s two-run homer helps erase five-run deficit in 7-5 Sunday finale

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette softball erased a five-run deficit and claimed a 7-5 victory over Holy Cross in the series finale on Sunday at Metzgar Fields. Katie Harrington's two-run home run in the sixth inning proved to be the decisive blow.

For the Leopards, under interim head coach and Holy Cross alum Kelliner Croushore, it was the first Patriot League series sweep since 2008. The 2025 Leopards have stretched their season win streak to five games, their longest winning streak since 2017.

Holy Cross scored all of its offense in the second inning. Leopard starter Parker Rowden retired the first two batters of the inning, but walked the next three to load the bases. The next batter, Brooke Ventrelle, hit a ball down the third base line and the Leopards attempted to let it roll into foul territory, but it got hung up on the baseline to score a run. The next batter Ali Sniegocki blasted a grand slam to right field to advance Holy Cross' lead to 5-0. Makayla Lecky came in the get the final out of the inning.

Lafayette started to chip away at the deficit. In the third, the Leopards loaded the bases and plated a run on an error.

The comeback momentum continued to build in the fourth inning. Olivia Catalina (single) and Caroline Hall (double) each drove in a run and the Leopards added another on a 1st-and-3rd attempted steal, as Lafayette trimmed the Crusaders' lead to 5-4.

Just an inning later, rookie Jocelyn O'Keeffe smacked a single to right center that knotted the game at 5-5.

In the sixth, Harrington hit her second home run of the series, a two-run shot with Mary Grace O'Neill aboard. Lafayette led 7-5.

In the final inning, Lecky retired the first two Holy Cross batters via groundouts, but then a single and a fielding error put runners on first and second. Lecky ended the suspense, collecting a hard ground ball up the middle for the final out.

The freshman pitcher threw the final 5.1 innings, scattering five hits with two strikeouts against the 22 batters she faced. Holy Cross reliever Sophie Roncone took her third loss of the series, giving up three earned runs on five hits over 2.2 innings while striking out four.

Lafayette will continue Patriot League play with a three-game series vs. Lehigh on March 29-30.
