Softball Defeated by Canisius

O'Neill and Klug each tally a hit in loss

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A pair of six-run innings allowed Canisius to take the first of two games against the Leopards at the Penn State Invitational on Saturday monring.

After capturing the lead in the first inning with an RBI-double, the Golden Griffins capitalized in the second by way of home runs. Emily Ilano, Rosie Gomez and Bailey Alatorre each swatted a ball over the fence and combined for six RBIs.

In the fourth inning, Canisius collected six more runs. The Golden Griffins tallied four hits in the inning and capitalized on two Leopard errors to solidify the lead.

Freshman Sophia Alvarez-Backus was given a loss after pitching 1.2 innings and giving up seven runs on eight hits. Canisius' Mikaila Obenrader earned the win after ringing up four Lafayette batters over five innings of work. Seniors Mary Grace O'Neill and Maggie Klug were the only two Leopards to whom Obenrader allowed a hit.

The Maroon and White will retake the field at 4 p.m. against Fairfield to wrap up their Saturday slate.
