RIVERSIDE, N.Y. – In the sixth inning of Wednesday's non-conference game, senior
Michael Zarrillo blasted a solo home run that set the Lafayette all-time home run record. The Jaspers went on to claim a 5-3 decision at Clover Stadium.
The Leopards started the scoring in the first as sophomore
Matt Colella hit a sacrifice fly to left field, giving Lafayette a 1-0 advantage.
In the second, the Jaspers tied the game, 1-1, on an RBI-single by Nico Mattera. Lafayette took back the lead in the third as Zarrillo ripped an RBI-double down the right field line, to make the tally 2-1.
In the sixth, Zarrillo blasted a solo home run that put him atop the career home run list for the Leopards. The home run was Zarrillo's 23
rd career blast and gave the Maroon and White a 3-1 lead.
Manhattan cut the Lafayette lead to 3-2 in the seventh on a wild pitch, and took the lead in the eighth on a walk and a two-run single by Guriyandel Salva, making the final score 5-3.
Ryan McLaughlin earned the win, working one inning, giving up one hit and no runs. Brown earned the save, pitching a scoreless ninth. Junior
Rob Dorn surrendered two runs in the loss.
The Leopards are next in action when they host Bucknell for a three-game series starting at noon on Saturday.
