EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette men's soccer hosted Bucknell on Saturday for its Patriot League opener, which resulted in a 2-0 victory for the visitors. Zane Domsohn and Drew Roskos both found the back of the net in the first half to propel the Bison to their second-straight win.
The reigning Patriot League champions held a lot of the possession in the first 20 minutes, as Lafayette looked to play on the counter. The Bison registered a handful of half chances prior to opening the scoring in the 19
th minute.
Bucknell had a throw in its own half before a Bison threw it long down the right-hand channel. Cade McGrath was first to the ball and he drove towards the by line looking to beat his man. The midfielder then worked the ball back onto his right foot and supplied a cross into the box. Zane Domsohn beat his man to the ball and dispatched his effort with two touches to give the visitors an early lead.
The Bison doubled their advantage in the 30
th minute. Goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth stood over the ball in his box, before he pinged a long ball towards the Leopards' back line. Drew Roskos was running along two Lafayette defenders as the ball bounced towards the Leopards' penalty area. The forward gambled and beat goalkeeper
Eric Axtman to the ball, eventually rolling the ball into the back of the net.
At the intermission, the score remained 2-0 in favor of Bucknell.
The Maroon and White created more offensive opportunities in the second period, but Bucknell continued to be equally as dangerous. Lafayette continued to look for chances on the counter and the Bison maintained the majority of possession.
Lafayette's best goal scoring chance came in the 80
th minute. The Leopards won the ball back in midfield and junior
Max Fujimori quickly played the ball out wide. It appeared they had lost possession before freshman forward
Tommy Clark cleverly won the ball back. The Dunmore, Pa. native played a cross into the box that found the foot of junior
Conor Cohen, but a Bucknell defender put in a key block.
The visitors managed the match well down the stretch and collected their fourth win of the season at the final whistle.
Lafayette returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Tuesday as it makes it way to Philadelphia for a matchup with the Temple Owls.
