EASTON, Pa. – Junior running back Kente Edwards made the most of first career start, running for 127 yards on 12 carries en route to Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Edwards scored three touchdowns in the Leopards' 42-26 win over Stonehill on Saturday. He punched in scores of four, two and 78 yards on a sunny afternoon in Massachusetts. The 78-yard scamper was the first run of 70-plus yards for the Leopards since Nov. 11, 2023. The Annandale, N.J. native averaged 10.6 yards per carry and currently ranks seventh in the nation for rushing touchdowns.
Edwards' performance was part of an explosive running attack at Stonehill that churned out 319 rushing yards, spurred by 77 from Ethan Weber, 47 from Jason Penza, 38 from Jakyre Henley and 17 from Payton Greer. Weber, Penza and QB Dean DeNobile (13 yards) all ran in scores for the Maroon and White who evened their record at 1-1.
Lafayette opens Patriot League play on Saturday at Georgetown (2-0) in a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Leopards have won their last four Patriot League openers, but have split the last four meetings with Georgetown.
