EASTON, Pa. - Following a stellar start to the season, Lafayette field hockey has earned national recognition, landing at No. 19 in the latest NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll and rising to a program-high No. 7 in the official NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) rankings.
The Leopards' surge into the national rankings comes on the heels of several signature victories across their opening slate. Lafayette secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Temple and edged out Cornell 2-1 in a hard-fought non-conference battle. The team also opened Patriot League play on a strong note with decisive 2-0 and 1-0 shutouts against Colgate and Holy Cross, respectively.
Individual excellence has fueled the Maroon and White's early-season success. Senior Lena Thedrian has spearheaded the attack, leading the team in both points (13) and goals (6). On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Addison Kahn has anchored the backline with 28 saves and four shutouts through the team's first nine games.
In addition to their achievements on the field, the Leopards have made a significant impact off of it through several worthy initiatives. During their recent home slate, the field hockey program spearheaded fundraising efforts for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness as well as the Gretta Ehret Dream Crazy Foundation, uniting the College Hill community to raise both donations and awareness for these critical causes.
Lafayette's last showing in the NFHCA Coaches Poll came in 2024 during the historic Patriot League title run. The No. 20 Leopards of that season ranked 21st for RPI, while the 2012 conference championship squad attained a No. 11 mark for their strength of schedule.
Lafayette returns to action this Friday, Oct. 2, resuming Patriot League play versus American. Game time is set for 6Â p.m. at Rappolt Field.
