Leopards Drop Clash against Navy

Thomas Clark scores in the 4-1 decision at Gummeson

EASTON, Pa. – A second-half surge by Navy proved to be the difference as the Lafayette men's soccer team fell to the Midshipmen, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon on Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

Navy opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Cohen Nance finished a pass from Yul Hong to give the Midshipmen a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Lafayette recorded several corner kicks in the closing minutes of the half but was unable to capitalize.

Navy extended its advantage in the 55th minute when Duncan Sullivan scored off an assist from Braedy Strothkamp and Luke Parker. Less than two minutes later, Lafayette's Thomas Clark dribbled and spun past his defender, firing a shot through the back of the net to cut the deficit in half.

Hong went on to restore Navy's two-goal lead in the 63rd minute before Jack Illig added another score in the 82nd minute to seal the 4-1 result.

Francisco Benbow made two saves for the Leopards, while Sam Clark recorded six saves for Navy. Lafayette finished with an 18-7 advantage in shots and a 12-2 edge in corner kicks.

Lafayette will be back home Tuesday for the last non-conference matchup of the season against Drexel at 7 p.m.
