Men’s Soccer Draws American 2-2

Melnick and Biegon score on the road

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lafayette men's soccer held a two-goal lead in the second half but conceded a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw against American on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field.

The Leopards set the tone early in the 39th minute when James Melnick scored his first collegiate goal. The score came off a free kick from Samir Dishnica to give Lafayette a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Lafayette carried its attacking momentum into the second half, forcing American goalkeeper Evan Tubbs into multiple saves. Beaux Lizewski and Lucas Gardeniers each tested Tubbs, while the Leopards earned three corner kicks in the opening 22 minutes after the break.

Lafayette doubled its advantage in the 72nd minute as Roy Biegon capitalized on a turnover in the American defense, collecting the loose ball and finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

American responded in the 75th minute when Yuta Phoenix scored off an assist from Finn O'Brien, cutting the deficit to one.

The Eagles found the equalizer in the 89th minute when Nicholas Beil finished a pass from Chris Sullivan to make it 2-2.

Harrison Wolfrom made four saves for the Leopards, while Tubbs also finished with four stops.

Lafayette will be back on the road Friday against Boston U. at 7 p.m.
