WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army hosted the Leopards on Saturday, notching a 3-0 win.
Noa Kamphuis paced the Maroon and White's offense with seven kills, followed by Grace Jamison (5) and Justine Puig (5). Setters Mackenzie Calhoun (10) and Sophia Wilson (9) combined for 19 assists. Freshman Johanna Groger led the Leopards with four block assists and now claims 47 block assists this season.
Army captured an opening set win, 25-15, behind a seven-point run near the end of the period. The Black Knights tallied 16 kills to just six attack errors (.227 hitting percentage). Juliette Myrick (5) and Kennedy Jones (5) were responsible for 10 of the hosts' spikes during the stanza. For the Leopards, Kamphuis and Auma Mbeche-Odhiambo tallied two kills while Puig notched six of her 15 match digs.
The Black Knights' offense used a well-balanced attack to win the second set, 25-16. During the stanza, seven different players racked up kills. Kealakai Bandy led the hosts with three spikes, while Myrick and Naomi Chinchar accounted for 10 of Army's 12 assists. Kamphuis, Puig and Johanna Groger all collected two kills. Defensively, Lafayette recorded three blocks. Groger's two block assists were a team-high.
The Maroon and White held a 15-13 advantage in the third stanza thanks to two separate spurts of three-consecutive points. Army answered immediately after, using a four-point rally to retake the lead (17-15). Lafayette flipped the lead down the stretch, 19-18, prior to the Black Knights' five-point run (23-19). Back-to-back kills from Jones and Corrine Blackburn wrapped up the set, 25-20, and handed Army a 3-0 match win.
Lafayette returns to Easton on Oct. 10 to host Loyola.
