Trio to Captain Women’s Hoops for 2026-27

Lafayette opens the season at St. John’s on Monday evening

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's basketball and first-year head coach Ben O'Brien have chosen Tasha Chudy, Teresa Kiewiet and Talia Zurinskas to serve as captains for the 2026-27 season.

"Tasha, Teresa and Talia represent the type of leaders we want our program built around. Their commitment, character and willingness to put the team first will play an important role in our success this season," O'Brien said. "We are excited to have them leading the way and setting the tone for our program!"

Chudy competed in over 60 games for the Leopards through her career, heading into her senior season. She averaged 6.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assister per game. The Mechanical Engineering major totaled a season-high 14 points against Saint Peter's on Nov. 13.

Kiewiet, a 2026-27 Patriot League Preseason All-League selection, started in 28 games for the Leopards last winter. She contributed a team-best 16.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 1.2 apg. Kiewiet recorded double-digits in points in 25 contests, five double-doubles and finished the year in the top 10 of Lafayette's single-season scoring list in 2025-26. Her post-season accolades included the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year (the first Leopard in conference history to win the award since its inception in 1990-91) and All-Conference Second Team.

As a Psychology major, Zurinskas started in all 30 games last season for Lafayette. She averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game as a guard while shooting 34.8 percent from the field. On March 4 versus Colgate, Zurinskas recorded a career-high 21 points. She dished a team-season-high nine assists against Army on Feb. 7.

Lafayette returns 11 players from 2025-26, including five who started in 10 or more contests. The squad added four freshmen to the roster for the upcoming schedule.

The Maroon and White open the winter slate at St. John's on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
