Second-Half Comeback Lifts Lafayette Past Boston University, 2-1

Zaffanella’s three-point afternoon sparked a late two-goal rally, capped by Plowright’s first strike of the year to complete the comeback.

EASTON, Pa. — The Leopards scored two second-half goals to complete a 2-1 comeback victory against Boston University on Sunday at Mike Bourger Field at Oaks Stadium.

Boston U. opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Kat Slott netted an unassisted strike to put the Terriers ahead early. Lafayette generated five first-half shots but went into the break trailing 1-0.

The Leopards elevated their attack after the break, equalizer coming in the 80th minute as Nadia Zaffanella buried a rebound off Eva Acker's strike against the crossbar to bring Lafayette level at 1-1. Seizing the momentum, the Maroon and White surged ahead in the 86th minute when Heather Plowright finished off a dish from Zaffanella for the game-winner. With a goal and an assist on the day, Zaffanella pushed her season tally to 12 points and brought her career total to 48 improving her rank to fourth all-time in Lafayette program history.

Lafayette's defense held firm through the closing minutes to seal the conference victory, 2-1.

Catherine Apker earned the win in goal for Lafayette, stopping four of the five shots she faced over 90 minutes. Bridget Carr recorded three saves, while allowing two goals on 11 shots faced.

Lafayette will return to action traveling to Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m.
