Penn State Pulls Away From Leopard Softball

Maroon and White close out the day vs. Houston Christian

HOUSTON, Texas – Penn State broke open a one-run game with five runs in the fourth inning en route to a 14-1 final on Saturday morning at Houston Christian's Husky Field.

The Leopards were able to get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, Olivia Catalina drew a six-pitch walk for the 1-0 lead. That prompted a pitching change. Abigail Britton came on in relief and enticed the Leopards into double play to end the inning.

Penn State (6-2) immediately responded, using an RBI-double from Natalie Lieto and a sac fly from Allison Oneacre to capture a 2-1 lead, it would not relinquish.

The Nittany Lions turned up the heat in the fourth inning, pounding out five runs, three via Kristen Finarelli's home run. The visitors added seven runs on four hits and a pair of Leopard errors in the top of the fifth to cement the final.

Jordan Goedel was the pitcher of record for the Leopards, allowing two runs on two hits over while walking six over two innings. Britton claimed the win, holding Lafayette to one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

Lafayette will finish off a busy Saturday, playing host Houston Christian at 4 p.m.
