EASTON, Pa. - Holy Cross captured a 53-44 final on Tuesday night at Kirby Sports Center. Lafayette's
Teresa Kiewiet notched her second double-double of the 2025-26 campaign with a 14-point, 10-rebound effort.
The Crusaders gained an early 8-2 advantage, featuring three points from Meg Cahalan. The Maroon and White answered with a
Haylie Adamski three, cutting into the deficit (8-5). Buckets from Janie Bachmann (4), and Hannah Griffin (2) kept the Leopards at bay at the midway point of the quarter. At the 4:07 mark, Kiewiet nailed a shot from beyond the arc, pulling Lafayette within 14-11. Holy Cross' defense forced six missed shots down the stretch of the quarter as the visitors led 19-11.
The second quarter was dominated by defense
, while Lafayette allowed just four shots on 14 attempts. The two teams were evenly matched on the boards, with both snagging 11 rebounds. As the quarter came to a close, Holy Cross held an eight-point advantage (29-21). During the quarter, the Crusaders and Leopards both netted 10 points. The visitors did their damage from three, making 2-of-5 attempts. Six of the Maroon and White's points came from the charity stripe.
Holy Cross' Cahalan and Bachmann found the bottom of the nylon in quarter three. The teammates combined for eight of the team's 14 points in the period. For the hosts, Kiewiet was responsible for five points and four rebounds in a full 10 minutes of action. With 8:11 on the clock, the junior guard cut through the lane for a driving layup to pull within six (29-23). A trio of threes came throughout the period, pushing the Holy Cross advantage to 43-31 with 10 minutes left to play.Â
Key buckets from Cahalan (4) and Kaitlyn Flanagan (4) in the fourth kept the lead out of reach for the Leopards. At 3:37, Maddison Krug converted a mid-range jump shot to pull within seven (49-42). Cahalan and Flanagan scored on consecutive possessions to gain a 53-42 lead. The Crusaders solidified the 53-44 decision shortly after. Kiewiet finished with 14 points to pace Lafayette.Cahalan led all scorers with 15 points. Holy Cross shot 36.7 percent from the field to Lafayette's 26.3 percent. The visitors were effective at finding the open shooter, tallying 20 assists.Â
