CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Lafayette baseball team dropped its series finale to No. 23 Miami, falling 30-5 to the Hurricanes at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field on Sunday.
Miami jumped into the lead in the first, taking a 5-0 advantage.
The Leopards got on the board in the third inning when
Alex Barrist singled, stole second and eventually scored on a sac fly  by
Jack Mislan. The Hurricanes responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame, bringing the tally to 7-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Hurricanes exploded for 12 runs on nine hits, including five home runs, extending their lead to 19-1.Â
Lafayette's most productive frame came in the ninth, where the Leopards plated four runs. Barrist doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an error following a ball put in play by
Matt Colella.
Teddy Cashman then drove in Colella with an RBI-single.
Brandon Doubek followed, hitting a two-run home run to deep right field, making the final score 30-5.
On the mound,
Trey Zaffiro took the loss, allowing six runs on two hits. Tate DeRias earned the win for Miami, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Lafayette will next travel to William and Mary for a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
