WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Lafayette baseball was outlasted by William & Mary, 12-5, on Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
William & Mary jumped out to a quick lead, scoring four runs in the opening inning. The Leopards responded in the second when
Vince Libretto drove in
Jack Mislan with an RBI-single down the left field line. The Tribe answered with two more runs in the bottom half of the frame to extend their lead to 6-1.
Lafayette continued to chip away, adding a run in the third on an RBI-single by
Brandon Doubek that scored
Alex Barrist. In the fifth, the Leopards cut the deficit to 7-4 after Barrist scored on an error and
Matt Colella crossed the plate via Mislan's RBI-groundout.
However, the Tribe pulled away again with a five-run surge across the fifth and sixth innings, to make the score 12-4. The Leopards threatened late, loading the bases in both the seventh and ninth innings. In the final frame,
Boden Fernsler drew a bases-loaded walk to score Barrist, bringing the final tally to 12-5.
Jack Weight earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts over 3.1 innings of relief.
Kellen Moore, who surrendered seven runs on seven hits in 2.0 innings, took the loss, .
Lafayette will next be in action on Tuesday when it takes on Binghamton at 3 p.m.
