Softball Splits Pair of Wednesday Contests With Georgetown

Harrington goes 4-for-8 with three RBIs over two games

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Leopards traveled to Georgetown on Wednesday, going 1-1 in a doubleheader vs. the Hoyas. Infielder Katie Harrington had standout day, tallying four hits and three RBI in eight at-bats. In the second game, Parker Rowden earned her fourth win of the season after eight innings of two-run ball.

The Leopards started the scoring early in game one in the top of the first. Infielder Katie Harrington got things going with an RBI-double, scoring senior Dani Rosner. Ava Butler followed up with an RBI-single of her own, bringing Harrington around the bags to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead. Solid pitching from Sophia Alvarez-Backus forced Georgetown to have a quick 1-2-3 inning with all three outs coming via groundout in the bottom half of the first.

The Hoyas tied it up in the second with RBIs from Brooke Rebhan and Devyn Johnson.

Georgetown broke out in the fourth, putting up three runs on four hits and two errors. The Hoyas relied on Brooke Rebhan and Devyn Johnson to take a three-run lead (5-2). Rebhan struck again in the fifth inning, this time with a two-run home run, to extend the hosts' favor to 7-2 in a 9-3 final.

Alvarez-Backus pitched four innings giving up five runs on eight hits, along with two strikeouts. Emily Collins earned the win, going six innings while allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Game two of the doubleheader needed extra innings to decide a winner with Lafayette coming out victorious in a 4-2 win.

The Leopards struck in the top of the second. The Maroon and White loaded the bases with two outs, bringing Harrington to the plate. The junior infielder took advantage of the opportunity, collecting an RBI-single for a 1-0 lead.

Starters Parker Rowden and Marina Egbert settled in early. Rowden held the Hoyas to one hit over the first three frames. After allowing a run, Egbert scattered two hits over her next four innings of work.

Georgetown's offense found its footing in the fourth, getting on the board with an RBI-single from Brooke Rebhan.

Lafayette and Georgetown were tied at one run apiece entering the seventh inning. With one out, Harrington crushed a home run to retake the lead (2-1). In the hosts' half of the frame, Claire Turner poked a single through the right side to score Gabby Park. After seven innings of action, the two teams headed to extras tied at 2-2.

One inning was all the Leopards needed to secure the win. Regan Dillon, the first batter for the Maroon and White, smoked a double into the gap to bring home Jessica Tejera. Three batters later, Emma Ahlborn swiped home plate after a wild pitch for the 4-2 final.

Rowden earned her fourth win of the 2026 campaign after pitching all eight innings. The Chesapeake, Va. native allowed two runs on six hits and added a strikeout. Egbert was handed the loss after seven innings. She gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on nine hits.

Lafayette opens its conference slate on Saturday, hosting Boston U. for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
