WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Lafayette Men's Golf started the Spring season on Monday, taking on the two-day William & Mary Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. After 36 holes, the Leopards landed in seventh, shooting a 586 (+18) and remain six strokes out of the top five.
Reed Theiss paved the way for Lafayette at the par-71, 6,817-yard Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, turning in rounds of 70 and 73 to card a one-over-par 143. Theiss sits in 17th with 18 holes left to play. Senior
Harry Dessel (74-71) concluded his first two rounds in a tie for 26th. For the afternoon, Dessel collected six birdies and an eagle.
Winston Kelenc-Blank (75-72) rested in 34th, while sophomore
Travis Robertson (t-48) ended the day with a nine-over-par 151. Freshman
Viktor Kofod-Olsen tied for 68th in the 85-player field with a 157.
Six members of the Maroon and White are participating as individuals.
Michael DiNapoli ended up in 39th with a seven-over-par 149 in his first action this season. Freshman
Liam Brandt joined Robertson in 48th, carding rounds of 77 and 74.
Harrison Browne (157) was six strokes behind Brandt and Robertson in 68th.
Hudson Pace landed t-74 after shooting 158.
Chris Vahey (162) and
Valdemar Kofod-Olsen (165) rest in 82nd and 85th, respectively.
William & Mary lead the 12-team field after shooting 564. Navy (570) trails closely, with six strokes separating the two teams. Navy's Jack Tarzy leads the invitational as the top golfer, using a six-under-par 136 to jump to the top spot. Liberty's Luke Libbey -(4), participating as an individual, propelled himself to second by shooting 138.
Lafayette resumes play tomorrow morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
