Lafayette Rallies Late to Secure Walk-Off Victory Over Manhattan

Leopards collect fifth win in a row

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette rallied from an early three-run deficit to defeat Manhattan, 6-5, on Wednesday afternoon, sealed by a dramatic ninth-inning walk-off error at Kamine Stadium that extended the Leopards winning streak to five games.

The Jaspers opened the scoring with a three-run first inning, but Lafayette began its steady climb back in the second when Jack Mislan doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. In the third, Ryan Ulisse drew a walk, stole second and crossed the plate following a Manhattan fielding error, to make the score 3-2.

The Jaspers extended their lead to 5-2, scoring two runs in the fifth. Matt Colella brought the Leopards within two runs in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI-single that scored Ulisse, who had led off the frame with a double, bringing the tally to 5-3.

Lafayette erased the remaining deficit in the seventh inning without recording a hit. After Will Dobil was hit by a pitch and Ulisse walked, Alex Barrist drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run. Colella then provided the game-tying sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Ulisse for the third time in the contest, to tie the game 5-5.

The game reached its climax in the bottom of the ninth inning. Following a single by Barrist, Colella sent a ball toward shortstop that resulted in two Manhattan errors. The miscues allowed Barrist to race home from third and secure the walk-off victory for the Leopards, 6-5.

James Reese earned the win, pitching a scoreless ninth inning, while allowing just one hit. Chris Fidanza took the loss for Manhattan, charged with one unearned run on one hit, in 0.1 of an inning pitched.

The Leopards return to Patriot League play hosting Bucknell for a three-game series starting on Saturday at noon.
