EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette golf won the ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational on Monday following a second-round 10-under-par 278 to jump eight spots on the leaderboard. The Maroon and White's victory marks the first time since the tournament's inception that the hosts have captured rhe team title.
The Leopards turned in rounds of 302 and 278 for a four-over-par 580, topping second-place Towson (581) by one stroke. All five Lafayette starters landed within the top 25, three of whom shot under par on the final day of action at the par-72, 6,548-yard Northampton Country Club.
Harry Dessel ended the two-day event as the Leopards' top finisher. Rounds of 75 and 67 placed the senior in fourth. Sophomore
Reed Theiss rebounded from his first-round 74, firing off a three-under-par 69 for a fifth-place finish. Freshman
Viktor Kofod-Olsen landed t-19 following a four-over-par 148.
Travis Robertson (79-70) and
Winston Kelenc-Blank (77-72) both tied for 25th.
The Maroon and White were also represented by six individual golfers.
Michael DiNapoli paced the Lafayette individuals, using a three-over-par 147 to rest in 14th.
Liam Brandt (t-25th) joined Robertson and Kelenc-Blank with rounds of 75 and 74.
Harrison Browne (+11) finished in 64th after a final-round 75. Rookie
Chris Vahey rested in 78th after carding a 13-over-par 157.
Valdemar Kofod-Olsen (172) and
Hudson Pace (174) finished in 95th and 97th, respectively.
Drexel's John Stevenson took home medalist honors with a four-under-par 140.
Lafayette retakes the course on Thursday 9 a.m. when it competes against Lehigh in the Presidents' Cup.
