Maroon-White Showcase Concludes Spring Season

Fisher Stadium was the backdrop for a preview to the 2026 season

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette football program wrapped up the 2026 spring season on Saturday at Fisher Stadium. The Maroon-White Spring Showcase featured a mix of drills, live scrimmaging and instructional periods during the 15th practice of the spring. The showcase was separated into 12 practice periods over 75 minutes, narrowly eluding heavy rain showers that arrived in the early afternoon.

"It was a great day. Obviously, the rain held off," said Lafayette head coach John Troxell. "We got to see our quarterbacks execute a little bit because they are in a battle, and the running backs running hard, and getting our offensive line going. The defense did some great things. This is a chance to see the young guys and what they bring to the table."

One area of interest is the quarterback position where senior Daniel Lipovski and junior Jason Penza are battling for snaps, with Lipovski taking the first-team reps on Saturday.

"Both guys have a chance to be pretty good, so it's going to be fun watching them compete through the summer and into camp and get ready for the season," Troxell continued. "I have all of the confidence in the world in both of them, so we're in a good situation."

Whomever lands at QB will be equipped with one of the deepest wide receiving corps in the Patriot League led by senior WR Carson Persing, junior WR Mason Kuehner, sophomore WR Matthew Scerbo and All-Patriot League TE Ethan Hosak, all of whom found themselves in the starting lineup in 2025. Like Scerbo, classmates Zane Wooldridge and Nick Bierman showed explosive capabilities in their rookie campaigns and likely will see increased roles in 2026. Bierman, Scerbo and senior Ben Bussiere all reeled in highlight grabs on Saturday.

"There is a lot of experience at wide receiver" Troxell explained. "They have great speed out there and that group works really hard. We can't wait to see what they do in the fall."

Defensively, the front line of Darien Riley, Ahmir Crawley, Michael Vaughn and Callahan Blair limited the run game with Joey Shimko registering at least one tackle for loss on the day.

"This is just the first step of three for us," Troxell said wrapping up the afternoon. "We have summer workouts and preseason camp coming up and then we have to get ready for Georgetown in week one."

The team reports for training camp on July 28 with the week one matchup at Georgetown following a month later on Aug. 29. The home opener vs. Marist is set for Sept. 12.

NOTES: The day was kicked off by Fran Minotto '71 ringing the bell on the sideline after emerging from a battle from cancer. The bell is typically used by the team during game to celebrate an offensive score or the defense causing a turnover. Minotto briefly spoke to the team before practice began.

Junior Olivier Camerlain has made the move from defensive line to offensive line where he is wearing number 66 and is playing right tackle.
