Leopards Overpower St. Peter’s in 14-4 Victory

Doubek drives in five runs for Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette baseball utilized a 10-run first inning to power past St. Peter's, 14-4, on Wednesday at Kamine Stadium. The Leopards' offense exploded for 16 hits in the seven-inning contest, securing a victory behind a balanced hitting attack.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Leopards jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Will Dobil ignited the rally with a lead-off single and then Matt Colella singled, before Brandon Doubek launched a three-run home run to left-center field. The power display continued as Jack Mislan added a solo home run, followed by an RBI-double from Luke Caucci.  Dobil also drove in three runs with a single in his second plate appearance of the inning, and then Colella contributed an RBI-single, which made the score 9-0. Doubek launched an RBI-double to right field to cap the 10-run surge.

Lafayette added to its lead in the third inning when Doubek recorded a sacrifice fly to score Ryan Stoddard, bringing the score to 11-0.

St. Peter's found some life in the fourth inning, scoring three runs, highlighted by a solo home run from Steve Polizzi and RBI-singles by Luke Schwartz and Max Doninger, bringing the tally to 11-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Caucci drove in Mislan with a single to center field, to make it 12-3. Ian Huang added an RBI-single in the seventh to cut the Lafayette lead to 12-4.

The Leopards closed out the scoring in the bottom seventh inning as Mislan and Caucci each notched RBI-singles to provide the final 10-run margin, 14-4.

Offensively, Lafayette was led by Dobil, who finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Colella and Doubek also recorded multi-hit games, with Doubek finishing the day with five RBIs. Mislan went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Caucci drove in three runs on three hits.

Wesley Maksimow earned the win, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking two. Alex Angelidis took the loss, surrendering nine runs on seven hits in one-third of an inning.

Lafayette is next in action when it hosts Holy Cross on Saturday at noon.
