EASTON, Pa. — Lafayette baseball swept a doubleheader against Holy Cross on Sunday at Kamine Stadium, securing 3-1 and 7-4 victories to cap the series.
In game one, Lafayette wasted no time taking control in the bottom of the first inning. After
Will Dobil singled and stole second base,
Brandon Doubek launched a two-run home run to right field to give the Leopards a 2-0 lead. The pitching staff maintained that cushion until the sixth, when
Boden Fernsler tripled to left-center and subsequently scored on a wild pitch, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Holy Cross attempted a late rally in the top of the seventh, leading to their only run of the game. Braden Connors doubled to open the inning and later scored on an RBI-double by Alex Sandell. With the bases loaded and the tying run on second,
Antonio Correa struck out Nick Andersen to end the threat and the game. The Leopards collected the 3-1 win.
Gregory Quintana earned the win, stifling the Holy Cross bats for 5.2 innings. Quintana allowed no runs on four hits, while striking out five and walking two. Correa entered in the seventh inning to record the final two outs, including a strikeout, to earn his first save of the season.
Jake Lenahan took the loss for Holy Cross, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits. Lenahan struck out six and walked one in the effort.
In game two, The Leopards established control in the opening frame, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning. After Dobil and
Matt Colella reached on walks, Fernsler provided the game's biggest swing with a three-run home run to left field. Moments later,
Bode Grieve extended the lead to 4-0 with a solo home run of his own.
Holy Cross cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI-ground out and an advancement on a caught stealing.
Lafayette added to its cushion in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Luke Caucci singled, stole second and eventually crossed the plate on a wild pitch. In the fifth, the Leopards capitalized on a Holy Cross error to score two more runs, as
Luke Caucci delivered a two-RBI single to right field that scored Mislan and Grieve.
The Crusaders attempted a late comeback, scoring single runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but Lafayette secured the 7-4 win.
Ben Watermansecured the victory, improving his record to 3-2 on the season. Waterman overpowered the Holy Cross bats for much of the afternoon, allowing just one hit and two runs over 7.0 innings of work, while striking out six and walking three.
Aidan Gilbert was dealt the loss, working 2.2 innings and allowing four runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
With today's games, the Leopards have concluded their 2026 campaign with a 12-33 record and a 7-19 mark in the Patriot League.
