EVANSTON, Ill. - Lafayette kept the top team in the country, Northwestern, to one goal in Sunday afternoon's outing at Lakeside Field.

The Leopards held the two-time defending national champion Wildcats scoreless after three shots in the opening quarter.

Lafayette's junior goalkeeper Addison Kahn kept Northwestern at bay through seven shots by the halftime break. The hosts had a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners in the 0-0 knot after thirty minutes.

The Leopard defensive unit continued to hold its own for a tied third quarter. Kahn registered nine saves, while holding off 19 Wildcat shots and 13 corners.

Northwestern's Laura Salamanca received a yellow card just 25 seconds into the final period. The Leopards attempted to capitalize with a shot from Stella Malinowski that flew just wide of the cage. The hosts then took the only tally of the afternoon at 56:38. Jessica Freedman knocked down a far-post chip from Piper Borz and deflected the ball into the cage.

Northwestern held the advantage in total shots (20-2) and penalty corners (13-1).

Kahn finished with nine saves in the loss. Her Wildcat counterpart, Juliana Boon, was left untested in shots on goal.

Next up, the Leopards host Temple on Friday at 6 p.m. for the home opener at Rappolt Field.
