Kuony Deng is in his first season with the Lafayette football program. serving as the inside linebackers coach.
His corps will be led by sophomore Beckham Dee who collected FCS Football Central Freshman All-America honors in 2025 after starting 12 games and finishing with 62 tackles. he will serve as a team captain in 2026.
Deng spent the 2025 campaign at Georgetown as the outside linebackers coach. Prior to coaching at Georgetown, Deng was a defensive line graduate assistant at Oregon State for the 2024 campaign. Before his arrival at the Pac-12 school, the Aldie, Va. native served as the defensive line and linebackers coach at Training Haus in Minneapolis, working with some of the nation’s top collegiate players to prepare them for pro days and the NFL Combine leading up to the NFL Draft.
Deng, who played outside linebacker at the University of California, Berkeley from 2019-21, He was a two-time All-Pac 12 selection, a two-year captain and a three-year starter. He totaled 154 career tackles, 10 tackles for loss (-37 yards) with 3.5 sacks (-14 yards), eight pass breakups, eight passes defended, six quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
He graduated from Cal in December of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in American studies while going on to earn graduate certificates in entrepreneurship in May of 2021 and business administration from Cal in December of 2021.
Following his collegiate career, Deng was a member of the 2022-23 Chicago Bears practice squad, the first person of South Sudanese heritage to make it to the NFL.
