Kristen Foley enters her second season as an assistant coach on Lafayette’s women’s basketball staff. Foley came to College Hill after 20 years at Temple, where she served as the head women’s basketball coach for five seasons before transitioning into an administrative role.
“Kristen is such an asset to this program because she brings not only coaching experience, but athletic administrative experience to the table as well,” head coach Theresa Grentz said at the time of Foley’s hiring. “Kristen’s ability to guide individuals through strong relationships is uncanny. She has the unique ability to get people to do what she wants, and makes them believe it was their idea. Kristen’s characteristics blend perfectly with our ‘Hall of Fame’ staff. Kristen’s personality along with her high energy and positivity will help in creating a championship culture at Lafayette.”
At the time of her departure, Foley was the Senior Associate Athletic Director for the Owls, a position she was promoted to in 2011. Foley was also the school’s Senior Woman Administrator, and she had previously worked as an assistant athletic director. Her responsibilities included overseeing the administration of women’s basketball, volleyball and men’s and women’s rowing, while additionally providing color analysis for women’s basketball web stream broadcasts.
Foley was the Tournament Manager for two NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional Championships (2011 and 2005) and the 2004 First and Second Rounds. Previously, she chaired the NCAA Fencing Committee (2004-06) and was a member of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee from 2002-06. In 2005, Foley was honored with the “Outstanding Associate Director Award” presented by the All-American Football Foundation.
Prior to joining Temple, Foley was the head women’s basketball coach at Drexel from 1992-95. The team improved by eight wins from her first season to her third and final campaign.
Foley’s first coaching position after college was as an assistant coach for Grentz during her time at Rutgers. Foley served in that capacity for three seasons after a standout playing career for the Lady Knights. She was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Fame in 1995 after totaling 1,051 points and 455 assists for the school. Foley won the Headley-Singer Award for Rutgers’ Most Outstanding Female Athlete in 1987 after helping lead the program to its first Atlantic-10 Championship and a trip to the NCAA regional finals.
A three-time scholar athlete, Foley earned her bachelor’s degree (1986) and a master’s degree (1991) in educational administration at Rutgers.
